- Funding of $3.34 million for Midland TAFE renewables training facility
- Around 350 TAFE students to train at the state-of-the-art facility in 2026
- Facility to deliver more skilled workers for WA's clean energy transition
- $3.05 million for Bentley TAFE 'live works' training for hospitality students
- Funding from Commonwealth Government's TAFE Technology Fund
- Cook Government developing a skilled and productive workforce
The Cook and Albanese Labor governments have today announced the completion of two major projects funded through the Commonwealth's $50 million TAFE Technology Fund (TTF).
Construction of a renewables training hub at North Metropolitan TAFE's Midland campus received $3.24 million from the TTF, with the Cook Government contributing and additional $100,000. The facility features a 25-metre working at heights tower, two donated Vestas nacelles, two 2.5-kilowatt wind turbines, and a monitoring room.
North Metropolitan TAFE will deliver new Wind Power Skill Sets from 2026, giving around 350 students a year the opportunity to gain experience working on industry infrastructure.
The renewables training hub will be critical to developing the State's clean energy workforce required as Western Australia becomes a renewable energy powerhouse.
It will be central to the delivery of a range of training and workforce initiatives to be developed by the Clean Energy Skills National Centre of Excellence, a joint initiative between the Cook and Albanese Labor governments under the National Skills Agreement.
Around 415 commercial cookery, patisserie, and hospitality students are benefiting from significant upgrades to the kitchens at the Bentley Pines Training Restaurant at South Metropolitan TAFE's Bentley campus. The upgrades were funded with $2 million from the TTF and a $1.05 million Cook Government contribution.
As stated by Skills and TAFE Minister Amber-Jade Sanderson:
"The Cook Labor Government's record TAFE investment is delivering modern training facilities and a pipeline of workers for the jobs created by the strongest economy in the nation.
"Collaborating with the Commonwealth enables us to do even more as we prioritise jobs, health, and housing, and ensure we have the skilled workforce required as we become a renewable energy powerhouse."
