70 years of AEGIC lab confidence

AEGIC Sydney is celebrating 70 continuous years of accreditation through the National Association of Testing Authorities (NATA).

AEGIC Sydney, formerly the Bread Research Institute of Australia (BRI), received its first NATA accreditation in August 1952.

Through the years, the North Ryde laboratories have maintained NATA accreditation, giving the Australian grain and food industries the highest confidence in AEGIC’s analytical services.

AEGIC Business Manager – Analytical Services Dr Hayfa Salman said NATA accreditation was notoriously challenging.

“A NATA-certified lab needs to be continuously improving to not only meet, but exceed, international standards,” she said.

“The assessment process is very rigorous and maintaining accreditation over seven decades is a huge achievement.”

Dr Salman said AEGIC’s labs provided a wide range of analytical services to the Australian industry.

“The labs have long been a crucial pillar of support for growers, processors and exporters of Australian grains,” she said.

“NATA accreditation is critical to these customers because it provides confidence in measurements used for trade and product development.

“The Australian food industry also relies on AEGIC Sydney’s services, in particular dietary fibre analysis and Nutritional Information Panel testing.

“All processed food in Australia displays this panel, allowing consumers to make informed food decisions. Confidence in this nutritional information is crucial. Accredited data from AEGIC’s laboratory is used in the nutrition panels on a wide range of grain food products and supports food manufacturers and retailers.”

AEGIC Sydney’s facilities include analytical laboratories, a Pilot Mill, Pilot Bakery and research laboratories.
