Supanova has landed at Funfields, bringing the total number of world-first experiences at the theme park to four and providing visitors with the ultimate way to slide into a long hot summer.
The new adrenaline-pumping hybrid waterslide is 250m long and 27m high, and presents innovative features such as an 18m funnel, flying saucer and stimulating translucent-coloured rings that create the sensation of a faster ride.
Funfields Operations Manager Stephen Philp said Supanova had been 18 months in development, during which time the company had collaborated with ProSlide Technology Inc, the biggest waterslide developer in the world.
"We wanted to give our guests the most exhilarating waterpark experience in the world, so we reached out to ProSlide with that exact brief," Stephen said.
"And what we received back doesn't disappoint. Supanova is so technologically advanced it gives the feeling of actual weightlessness with zero g-force, which generates some serious fun for between two and four guests at a time.
"The actual speed at which you travel depends on the total weight of the participants, but I can guarantee that it's fast.
"The inspiration for the name and the ride stems from what you might experience in the moments before a star explodes: the massive build-up of energy with the coloured rings, then bursting into the funnel with the bright orange and yellow mirrors being the explosion. That is what a supernova in space is – the massive explosion of a star.
"The build itself took 25 people six months, and the testing has been rigorous, with more than 400 test runs using various configurations and guest sizes to ensure the best experience in market.
"Supanova brings our number of world-first products to four and helps cement Victoria's stake as the theme park capital of Australia."
The other world-first experiences at Funfields include:
- Typhoon – the world's longest ProSlide Cannonbowl;
- Gravity Wave – the world's biggest, longest and tallest ProSlide Tornado Wave; and
- Kraken Racer – the longest racing slide of its kind in the world.
Other fast facts:
- The ride comprises more than 30 40ft containers of fibreglass, more than 50 tonnes of steel and hundreds of cubic metres of concrete;
- Supanova was assembled in Australia; and
- It utilises a state-of-the-art filtration system that operates 24/7 along with daily, weekly and monthly maintenance schedules carried out by experienced water maintenance engineers.
These world-class waterslides, including Supanova, can be accessed on any Funfields ticket (Day Ticket, Season Pass, Fun Pass), but potential riders must meet height and health requirements.
Funfields caters for the whole family and is only a 40-minute drive north of Melbourne.
