The Briars is our local treasure and has long been a place for the community to visit and connect with nature, heritage and wildlife.
Now, The Briars is stepping it up another notch by working with Food for Change to provide fresh produce to Peninsula's struggling families.
On Saturday 22 May, Food for Change will begin farming a leased area at The Briars where they will grow and distribute fresh fruit, herbs and vegetables to families across the Peninsula, with the help of volunteers and aid organisations.
As well as growing their own produce, Food for Change will connect with local growers and rescue food from local supermarkets intended for Mornington Peninsula emergency relief providers, giving our most vulnerable communities access to a greater range of healthy food.
The farm area of The Briar's Green Dreaming precinct will become a food hub with links to local growers, food rescue organisations and local emergency relief providers.
This work links to the Shire's commitment to addressing food insecurity and encouraging healthy eating as outlined in its Municipal Public Health and Wellbeing Plan.
