AAD Director announces retirement 31 January 2023

Australian Antarctic Division

The Director of the Australian Antarctic Division, Mr Kim Ellis, has announced his retirement following a 45-year career.

Mr Ellis' association with Antarctica and the Southern Ocean began in his early career when he was with the Australian Army specialising in amphibious operations. Since joining the AAD in 2019 he has been a strong advocate of the Division's important work.

He has been an integral part in implementing the Australian Antarctic Strategy and 20 Year Action Plan, and overseeing Australia's interests in the region and the Australian Antarctic Program.

Kim leaves a strong legacy, having progressed significant accomplishments such as the RSV Nuyina and a modern traverse capability in support of the million-year-old ice project.
