Mildura's exciting new Powerhouse Precinct will be more accessible to even more people following Mildura Rural City Council's successful application for a Changing Places facility in the Precinct.

Changing Places facilities enable people with disabilities to fully access public toilets, with special features including change tables and hoists.

Mildura will be the only regional centre in north west Victoria to feature a Changing Places facility, which will be listed on the National Public Toilet Map website.

Councillor for Community Health and Wellbeing Cyndi Power said the Changing Places facility will be in addition to the existing public toilets in the Precinct.

"This vibrant new precinct will be yet another drawcard for our region, attracting both visitors and locals, however it's vitally important we make it as inclusive and accessible as we can so that everyone can enjoy events and activities along our riverfront," Cr Power said.

"Changing Places venues help us achieve this by breaking down accessibility barriers, ensuring the Powerhouse Precinct can not only be enjoyed by more people, but can improve the lives of people with a disability.

"Our inclusion as a Changing Places location on the National Public Toilet Map will also help visitors or newcomers to our region quickly locate the new facility."

The Changing Places facility will be located alongside the main public toilets in the Powerhouse Village Square and include a range of accessibility features including designated pathways and accessible parking bays for people with a disability.

Cr Power said the recent announcement of free MLAK keys for Victorian Companion Card holders would further enhance Mildura's status as a city that welcomes people with disabilities.

MLAK (Master Locksmiths Association of Australasia) keys provide entry to a range of accessibility facilities across the country, including Changing Places, disabled toilets and Liberty Swings.

Victorian Companion Card holders are now entitled to free MLAK keys through a partnership between the Office for Senior Victorians, and the Department of Families, Fairness and Housing.

Sunraysia residents with a Victorian Companion Card Number can order an MLAK key from the Master Locksmiths Association of Australasia website at www.masterlocksmiths.com.au
