Lake Macquarie will power up with speed and adrenaline this weekend as some of the fastest boats afloat vie for victory and Matt Hall's stunt plane soars above.

This year's Lake Mac Action Fest will feature two days of racing around the northern end of the lake, aerial displays and a lively spectator hub at the Warners Bay live-site, with food stalls, markets and kids' activities.

The weekend's boating action is spread across six 30-minute races and three boat categories showcasing some of the fastest boats in Australia – some capable of more than 200kmh.

Lake Macquarie City Council Manager Arts, Culture and Tourism Jacqui Hemsley said this year's Warners Bay live-site would run 10am-3pm each day, with a licensed bar running 11am-2.30pm, big screen showing all the racing action and loudspeakers with live commentary.

"Matt Hall returns to the lineup this year with his incredible aerial displays across both days," she said.

"Hardcore powerboat fans can also get up close to the machines at the Empire Marina pit area, or set up at Marmong Point where the boats travel close to shore."

Matt Hall's displays will take place at 11.40am on both Saturday and Sunday, with another Saturday display at 1.40pm, while a host of movie characters including Batman, Spiderman and the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles will rove across the Warners Bay live-site and interact with families.

This year's Action Fest also takes in the Fernleigh 15, the Morisset Lake Macquarie Agricultural Show and the Lake Macquarie 'Show 'n Shine' car display at Speers Point Park.

Lake Macquarie Mayor Adam Shultz said the weekend's program capitalised on the diversity of environments and attractions across the city.

"Lake Macquarie is one of Australia's great natural playgrounds, and this weekend is a perfect opportunity to get outdoors and experience everything our city has to offer," he said.

"From the Action Fest races on the water and Matt Hall's spectacular displays in the sky, to the Fernleigh 15, the Morisset Show and the Show n Shine, people can explore different parts of our city while enjoying a diverse range of activities."

"These events encourage people to get active, connect with their community and discover why Lake Macquarie is such a special place."
