Want to get active? Not sure where to start? Take the first step with Hobsons Bay City Council and VicHealth as part of This Girl Can Week.
This Girl Can Week, held across Victoria from 23 to 29 March, aims to encourage more women to give physical activity a go, or return to exercise after a break.
Council is launching the week at the Girls Lightning Cup, hosted by Altona City Soccer Club on Sunday 22 March at Kim Reserve.
Council is also promoting a series of free and low-cost activities throughout This Girl Can Week which are fun and tailored to women and girls who want to get active but aren’t sure about how to take the first step.

This Girl Can is a successful campaign which launched in March 2018 and has inspired one in five Victorian women to get moving. The campaign features real Victorian women instead of professional athletes or airbrushed Instagram models and is about empowering women to feel comfortable in their bodies and in public spaces – regardless of their ability, how they look or how sweaty they get.
As stated by Hobsons Bay Women’s Charter Champion Cr Sandra Wilson
“This Girl Can has had great success getting women and girls up and moving without the fear of judgement that stops so many from having a go.
“Hobsons Bay wants to support all women to be active and embrace a healthy lifestyle, no matter their age or ability.
“I encourage local women and girls to get involved and show that, in Hobsons Bay, this girl definitely can!”
As stated by VicHealth Head of This Girl Can Melanie Fineberg
“This Girl Can – Victoria empowers women to get active – no matter how sweaty they get, how red their face is or how good they are. We want women to have fun when they’re being active rather than worrying about what they look like or a number on the scales.
“This is about celebrating how getting active makes us feel – whether it’s the fun of playing in a team, the calm of yoga or the joy of diving in the water.
“We encourage women in Hobson’s Bay to check out the fantastic, beginner-friendly local events happening in your area for This Girl Can Week.
“Activities during This Girl Can Week will be inclusive, non-judgemental and accessible for women of different ages, body shapes and abilities.
“This Girl Can Week is for all kinds of Victorian women who are all kinds of active. I encourage you to give something a go – you might discover a new favourite hobby.”
