Anglicare Western Australia has been awarded a $1.4 million contract to continue delivering the Derby Family Violence Service for a further four years.

The service is delivered in partnership with Emama Nguda Aboriginal Corporation and provides integrated wraparound support services to address family violence in Derby and the Mowanjum Aboriginal Community.

The service forms part of the Cook Government's commitment to addressing family violence in the Kimberley, through place-based, culturally responsive and locally-informed interventions either designed by or in partnership with Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisations.

Two central hubs have been established at Anglicare WA and Emama Nguda Aboriginal Corporation's offices in Derby to enable women and men to have separate spaces to gather and receive services.

From these hubs, staff conduct outreach into the local community to connect with people in places they traditionally gather to ensure awareness and accessibility to the service.

As stated by Prevention of Family and Domestic Violence Minister Sabine Winton:

"It's great to announce the extension for the Derby Family Violence Service. Anglicare WA and Emama Nguda Aboriginal Corporation have worked closely together to deliver this service over the last few years, and I look forward to that continuing.

"Having culturally supportive services and local outreach in the region is really important and makes it more accessible for people to get the help and support they need.

"Continuing this service also reflects our commitment to addressing family violence in the Kimberley with locally-informed interventions and Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisations involved in this process."

Comments attributed to Kimberley MLA Divina D'Anna:

"Extending this service for a further four years in Derby and the Mowanjum Aboriginal Community is an important step as we continue to prioritise and address family violence in the Kimberley.

"I'm really pleased to be part of the Cook Government that's committed to preventing family and domestic violence and promoting Aboriginal family safety."
