More Australians will learn new skills next year with the Morrison Government funding additional university places.
The Morrison Government will provide $326 million for additional Commonwealth supported places at universities next year and beyond, equating to 12,000 new places.
Minister for Education Dan Tehan said the additional places would give more Australians the opportunity to learn new skills to help them become more job-ready.
"Australia is facing the biggest jobs crisis since the Great Depression and our Government is taking action to ensure more Australians can get a higher education," Mr Tehan said.
"We are doing this in recognition of the challenges faced by the Year 12 class of 2020, who have endured a final year of school like no other, and those who have lost their jobs and who need to retrain and reskill to find another.
"If the Senate passes the Job-ready Graduates Bill, there will be up to 30,000 additional university places available next year.
"Our Job-ready Graduates package will grow the number of university places for domestic students by 100,000 in ten years. It will also make degrees cheaper in areas of expected job growth to encourage students to tailor their studies to learn the skills that will be in demand.
"Our Job-ready Graduates package and the additional university places announced today will create thousands more university places to ensure more Australians have the opportunity to earn a tertiary qualification."
