Address To 10th Australian Workplace Giving Awards

Australian Treasury

My name is Andrew Leigh, the Assistant Minister for Charities, speaking to you from Ngunnawal land in Canberra.

It's a joy to help celebrate the 10th Australian Workplace Giving Awards - a night where generosity takes centre stage.

Workplace giving is a bit of everyday magic. With one small tick on a payroll form, people can support the charities they care about. When employers match those donations, it's like generosity on a 2‑for‑1 deal - good intentions multiplied.

Over the past decade, Australian workers have channelled more than $390 million through workplace giving, helping over 3,500 charities. That's not just spare change - that's real change: funding services, supporting communities and transforming lives.

Workplace Giving Australia has been championing this cause for 25 years, making it easy for giving to become part of daily life, not just an end‑of‑financial‑year resolution. And with 6,000 businesses now on board, the ripple effect is extraordinary - a real credit to Nikki Kinloch and your team.

So tonight, let's applaud the award winners, and thank everyone who makes workplace giving part of Australia's culture of generosity.
