Australian Border Force (ABF) officers have arrested an Adelaide man, 46, for allegedly importing child abuse material through Adelaide International Airport.
ABF officers selected the man for a baggage examination, based on intelligence-led screening, on his return from Indonesia on 18 June 2026.
During the examination, officers conducted a search of the traveller's baggage, including an examination of his electronic devices. The examination allegedly identified child abuse material including a large number of images and videos.
ABF investigators interviewed the man and subsequently arrested him for importing goods prohibited under Regulation 4A of the Customs (Prohibited Imports) Regulations 1956.
The man first appeared before the Adelaide Magistrates Court on 19 June 2026, where he was released on bail.
ABF Inspector Mark Vaughan said the Australian border is the front line in stopping abhorrent child abuse material proliferating in Australia.
"Using vast intelligence holdings, targeted examinations and specialised capabilities, our officers are able to detect and disrupt criminals who target the most vulnerable members of our community," Inspector Vaughan said.
"ABF maintains a zero-tolerance approach to the importation, possession and distribution of child abuse material. It's important to remember that every file represents the exploitation of a real child."
The man will next appear at Adelaide Magistrates Court on 04 August 2026.
