Administration of Modco Residential

WA Department of Mines, Industry Regulation and Safety

Building and Energy is advising home owners who have contracts with insolvent builder Modco Residential Pty Ltd to contact home indemnity insurance (HII) provider QBE.

The Perth building company's external administration notice was published today (26 July 2023). Building and Energy understands Modco Residential was directly contracted for 29 residential building projects that are yet to be completed.

Building and Energy Executive Director Saj Abdoolakhan said people with contracts and HII policies with Modco Residential should contact QBE on 1300 790 723 to discuss arrangements.

"This enables home owners to begin the process of engaging another registered builder to complete the work or to pursue other remedies," Mr Abdoolakhan said.

"In other cases, people may have thought they were clients of Modco Residential but their building contract, building permit and HII are in fact with another builder.

"These home owners should contact the builder named on the building contract to discuss arrangements for the completion of their homes.

"Building and Energy can take action against other building contractors if they are found to have engaged in improper conduct."

In May this year, Building and Energy issued a warning about Modco Residential following concerns about the company's financial status, unpaid subcontractors, inactivity on projects and premature demands for progress payments.
