Advocacy Important Part Of Council Work

Ararat Rural City Council is continuing to deliver on key priorities under its 2025-2029 Council Plan, with a strong focus on jobs, industry growth and major infrastructure advocacy.

CEO Dr Tim Harrison said Council was working hard to create long-term prosperity across the region.

"That means supporting education and training, attracting new industry and advocating strongly for the infrastructure our region needs," said Dr Harrison.

Council is building stronger connections between the Ararat Jobs and Technology Precinct (AJTP) and local industry, including promoting internship pathways for research students. It is also supporting the continued delivery of TAFE courses at AJTP, including Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care. Through a Department of Education Innovation Grant, Council will host the Ararat Best Start Workshop Series on 4 March 2026 to provide professional development for early childhood educators.

It's also working with Invest Victoria, Regional Development Victoria and private sector partners to advocate for a state-significant circular economy hub in Ararat. Support continues for Valorify Pty Ltd's proposed straw-based biogas plant and PlastOil's planned plastics recycling facility.

The CEO said Council was also actively advocating to state and federal governments for stronger renewable gas policy support, the Western Highway Upgrade from Buangor to Ararat, and development of a North-South Heavy Vehicle Route.
