Affordable housing victory for our community

MPSLogo_News.jpg

Thank you to our community for your feedback on our Affordable Housing consultation early this year.

The lack of affordable housing is a critical challenge for our Peninsula, and we're working hard to address it.

As part of the community consultation, we sought your input to understand your views on affordable housing, and your opinion on four proposed affordable housing site locations in Capel Sound, Rosebud, Hastings and Mornington.

We said your feedback would help inform Council's decision on the matter and we're pleased to let you know Council voted on Tuesday 6 September.

Hastings and Mornington

We're proceeding with lease negotiations for the sites in Hastings and Mornington to support housing for women including older women and victims of family violence.

You will have the opportunity to give feedback on the sites approved at the planning permit stage.

Nearly five times the number of women compared to men identify family violence as the primary reason for being homeless on our Peninsula. We're working hard to change this for women, families and everyone to have a safe and affordable home.

Capel Sound

We have received compelling feedback and after extensive consultation with our community, we are not proceeding with the Allambi Avenue site at Capel Sound for the purposes of this project.

Rosebud

To maintain a considered approach for affordable housing, we're exploring future types of housing needs for the central Rosebud sites before we go back to the market to seek a supporting partner.

We continue to advocate to the Victorian Government for investment in affordable housing across the Peninsula.
