AFL Grand Final fans with fake tickets denied entry

WA Department of Mines, Industry Regulation and Safety

Consumer Protection officers attended yesterday's AFL Grand Final venue Optus Stadium to assist consumers who turned up to entry gates/box office with fake tickets purchased online and were therefore denied entry. There were five individuals or groups with a total of 12 fake tickets and $6,600 in losses. All were either purchased on Gumtree or eBay. Ticketmaster reported to us that there were others who had arrived earlier but we don't have those details.

These reports are additional to the 6 ticket scam victims identified during the week who reported losing a total of  $3,795.
Also during the week, Consumer Protection identified and ordered the removal of a total of 50 advertisements on Gumtree, eBay and social media that violated WA's new ticket scalping laws.
Commissioner for Consumer Protection Gary Newcombe will be available for interview today, if required.
