AFL High Performance Training Centre Plans Released

Tasmanian Government

An exciting milestone has been reached for the AFL High Performance Training Centre, with the designs released for public comment by the Kingborough Council.

Minister for Sport, Nick Duigan, said the development will allow Tasmania's AFL club to establish its permanent home base.

"This development will provide the Tasmania Devils with world-class training, rehabilitation, and administrative facilities to support the club both on and off the field," Minister Duigan said.

"We have worked closely with the Devils to ensure the design will deliver the specific needs of their football program, from high-performance training and recovery spaces to areas that foster team culture and community connection.

"Our AFL and AFLW teams are creating a new industry in Tasmania, supporting our economy and attracting highly skilled people that will benefit the whole community."

The proposed AFL High Performance Centre will include a full gymnasium with weights, cardio and open training spaces, an indoor training field with viewing and camera platforms, and specialist training rooms.

Medical and rehabilitation areas will feature recovery pools, infrared saunas, treatment and physiotherapy rooms.

The development also includes dedicated facilities for the football department, including team rooms, match committee and analyst spaces, and an 80-seat lecture theatre.

Administrative areas will accommodate around 80 staff. Other amenities include a commercial kitchen, staff dining area, and multipurpose spaces, while public areas will feature a reception foyer, café, and club merchandise store.

Minister Duigan said the project would complement the nearby JackJumper and WNBL High Performance Training Centre, which is progressing well through construction.

"Having these high-performance facilities co-located creates an exciting sports precinct that brings together Tasmania's top teams while supporting collaboration across codes," Minister Duigan said.

"Importantly, the Tasmania Devils High Performance Centre will also deliver benefits for the broader community, providing opportunities for local partnerships and community programs."
