AFP Commissioner Krissy Barrett will sign a new policing agreement in PNG on Saturday (1 November, 2025) to boost the security of Australia and our closest Pacific neighbour.
Commissioner Barrett will sign the joint agency agreement with Royal Papua New Guinea Constabulary (RPNGC) Commissioner David Manning to improve the information flow and investigative support between the two agencies.
The agreement will further deepen a pre-existing memorandum between the AFP and RPNGC.
Commissioner Barrett said the new agreement focused on multijurisdictional investigations involving organised crime networks affecting PNG and Australia.
"This agreement is focused on multijurisdictional investigations involving organised crime networks affecting PNG and Australia,'' Commissioner Barrett said.
"This will streamline information exchange and sharing of police resources and technology, enabling them to disrupt threats earlier.
"Commissioner Manning's leadership is well-renowned in the Pacific, and his trusted advice on combatting common threats is valued.
"To keep Australia and PNG safe, we need to keep our region safe. And our great policing partners in the Pacific show what an important bloc of partners they are.
"In PNG, I will hold a bi-lateral meeting with Fiji Police Force Commissioner Rusiate Tudravu, who is also exhibiting strong leadership in supporting regional security in the Pacific."
In her first international visit as Commissioner, which signifies the valued partnership between the AFP and the RPNGC, Commissioner Barrett will also attend a ribbon-cutting ceremony at Bomana Police College's Regional Centre of Excellence in Port Moresby.
The event represents the official start of the major construction phase of the comprehensive works to upgrade the college, which will be able to fully train recruits and investigator training by early 2027.
It will include a new classroom facility, and multi-purpose facility and male and female cadet barracks enabling the college to accommodate participants from other Pacific nations, plus meet domestic PNG imperatives to increase police numbers.
Commissioner Barrett will also attend the NRL Pacific Championships game between PNG and Fiji.
