Aggravated robbery of watch store in Sydney

A man has been charged after an aggravated robbery at a Sydney watch store, NSW Police say.

About 6pm yesterday (Thursday 16 August 2018), a 54-year-old man attended a watch store in the QVB Building on George Street, Sydney, where he tried on a watch.

He then attempted to leave the store without paying but was challenged by the 29-year-old male shop attendant, before punching him in the face and leaving the store with the watch.

The attendant followed the man and called police.

The man boarded a bus which remained stationary until police from Sydney City PAC arrived and placed him under arrest.

In his possession, officers allegedly located several items believed to be stolen including headphones, a t-shirt with tags still attached, and prescribed medication.

He was taken to Sydney City Police Station where he was charged with aggravated robbery, goods in custody (x3), possess prescribed restricted substance and an outstanding warrant.

He was refused bail to appear at Central Local Court today (Friday 17 August 2018).

The shop attendant suffered a laceration to his lip in the incident.
