- Urban renewal project will promote investment and employment opportunities
- Department of Communities-led project is one of eight to rollout across the State
The local community will guide future growth, redevelopment and community projects in the Albany suburb of Spencer Park.
Housing Minister Peter Tinley today announced Growing Spencer Park - a project led by the Department of Communities in partnership with the City of Albany and the Great Southern Development Commission.
Growing Spencer Park, one of eight urban renewal projects being progressed by the department across the State, aims to improve the area's liveability and connectivity while providing a mix of modern housing options.
The project involves the preparation of a local development plan to guide future development in a precinct surrounding the Spencer Park Shopping Centre that includes Spencer Park Primary School, Bellingham Street and part of Hillman Street.
The plan will show the types of buildings that can be built as well as streetscapes, design elements, open space and linkages to the surrounding area. The community is encouraged to contribute to the plan's development via a staged consultation process run by ConsultWG.
The first phase of consultation, to start on October 22, will include workshops, meetings and displays to prompt conversations about the community's priorities, values and vision for their neighbourhood.
The Growing Spencer Park urban renewal project is part of the State Government's Affordable Housing Action Plan 2017-18 to 2019-20. The plan is underpinned by the principles of people, place and home; and reflects the contribution of affordable housing to health, educational, social and economic outcomes.
