Alcohol and drug seizures - Arnhem Land

Northern Territory Police have seized a large quantity of alcohol destined for Arnhem Land.

Over the past two weeks, local police stationed at Cahill's Crossing have apprehended multiple vehicles attempting to smuggle illicit substances into the area.

On Friday 20 October between 4pm and 9pm, members apprehended a Holden Commodore on the Oenpelli Access Road and located 12 litres of alcohol.

An hour later, a Holden Captiva was apprehended on the same road, containing 60 grams of cannabis and 50 litres of alcohol.

Another Holden Commodore was apprehended with 70 grams of cannabis and 4.7 litres of alcohol.

Finally, a Nissan Navara was apprehended with 23 litres of alcohol on board.

Notices to Appear were issued to the drivers and the alcohol and drugs were all seized for destruction.

Acting Senior Sergeant Steve Langdon said "Alcohol related violence, specifically relating to Domestic Violence, remains one of the largest social issues facing our communities.

"Alcohol Restricted Areas are in place for the protection of the vulnerable and the ripple effect from its supply into these communities can be nothing short of devastating."

Anyone with information on the supply of illegal alcohol or drugs into our communities can call police on 131 444 or make an anonymous report to Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
