Murrindindi Shire Council is calling on locals, visitors and supporters to vote for Alexandra after the town was named a finalist in the 2026 Victorian Top Tourism Town Awards, in the Small Tourism Town category.
Public voting is now open and closes at 5.00 pm on 26 June, with the community encouraged to get behind the entry and show its support for the region.
The nomination highlights the diversity of tourism experiences, townships and strong collaboration between communities and local tourism businesses across the region.
Located a short 60-to-90-minute drive from Melbourne, as the biggest town in Murrindindi Shire, Alexandra offers a mix of natural beauty, rich heritage and warm country hospitality, with outdoor adventure, rivers, trails and mountain landscapes right on its doorstep.
Murrindindi Shire Council Mayor Cr Damien Gallagher said the finalist recognition was a proud moment for the town and encouraged the community to support the public vote.
"We are incredibly proud to see Alexandra recognised as a finalist in these prestigious awards. While Alexandra is the nominated town, this recognition truly reflects the strength of the entire Murrindindi Shire, our communities, townships and tourism businesses working together," Mayor Gallagher said.
"At a time when we continue to navigate the impacts of fire and recovery, this nomination provides a real boost, celebrating our resilience, our spirit and everything that makes our region so special."
"We're calling on locals, visitors and supporters to get behind Alexandra by voting and sharing the message," Mayor Gallagher continued.
"Every vote is a simple but powerful way to support not just one town, but our entire region as we continue our recovery."
The Victorian Top Tourism Town Awards recognise destinations that deliver outstanding visitor experiences while demonstrating strong community engagement and a commitment to tourism.
Recognition at this level plays an important role in driving visitation, supporting local jobs and strengthening economic recovery across the region.
