Alice Springs residents invited to share what matters most for the future

4 November 2026

The NT Planning Commission is inviting Alice Springs residents to participate in a Community Profile and Liveability Survey as part of its review of the Alice Springs Regional Land Use Plan.

The survey will help the Commission better understand the Alice Springs community, including residents' experiences, priorities and aspirations. The information gathered will help inform the review and support future planning for the town.

In the coming days, selected households across Alice Springs will receive a survey package in their letterbox. Residents who receive a package can complete the survey online using the QR code provided or return the paper survey using the reply-paid envelope.

Residents who do not receive a survey package can also take part by completing the survey online at haveyoursay.nt.gov.au here before 30 November 2026.

Northern Territory Planning Commission Chairperson Mark Coffey PSM said the Commission wanted to hear from the community before considering future planning directions.

"We're at the beginning of this review and we're listening before decisions are made," Mr Coffey said.

"We want to understand what matters most to the people who live in Alice Springs, including what they value about the town, the challenges they face and the opportunities they see for the future.

"Whether you've lived in Alice Springs all your life, have recently moved here, or something in between, your views are important and we encourage everyone to take part."

The review of the Land Use Plan is being led by the Planning Commission, with support from the Department of Lands, Planning and Environment.

The survey is part of a broader engagement program planned for the next 6-12 months that will support the review. Community views gathered through the survey will be considered alongside technical studies and other evidence to help inform future planning.

The survey asks residents about topics that affect everyday life, including housing, services, transport, employment opportunities, community facilities, public spaces and overall liveability.

The survey is being delivered independently by Metropolis Research. Responses are confidential and will be reported only in summary form. The survey does not ask participants to provide their name or other information that would directly identify them.

"Every survey response helps us build a better understanding of the Alice Springs community and what matters most for the future," Mr Coffey said.

The survey is the first of several opportunities for residents, businesses, community organisations, and other stakeholders to contribute to the review of the Alice Springs Regional Land Use Plan.

Residents can complete the survey until 30 November 2026 at haveyoursay.nt.gov.au here
