More than 7,000 free tickets have already been snapped up to view METRONET's new C-Series prototype on display at Yagan Square these school holidays.
The prototype is the first opportunity for locals to see inside the new C-Series, with the model two-thirds of an actual railcar, weighing 16 tonnes and coming in at 14 metres long.
It includes the internal features of the C-Series including the new seating choices, USB charging points, additional information screens and an extra set of doors per carriage for faster entry and exit.
Delivering a key McGowan Government election commitment to return railcar manufacturing to WA, the new 246 C-Series railcars will be built locally at the Bellevue railcar facility by Western Australian workers.
Construction of the Bellevue railcar facility is almost complete and anticipated to be handed over to Alstom by the middle of the year.
The display at Yagan Square will run from April 3 to 18 between 9am and 5pm, with a special quiet hour every Thursday at 9am. For more information or to secure a free priority entry ticket, visit http://www.metronet.wa.gov.au/all-aboard
As stated by Transport Minister Rita Saffioti:
"More than 7,000 people have already registered to visit the C-Series railcar display at Yagan Square, showing how much interest there is in our new railcars.
"The prototype gives locals the opportunity to get up and close with our next generation of railcars and see what exciting new features will be incorporated - people will be able to walk through it, sit in the seats and see it for themselves.
"We made a commitment to build our railcars locally, and we are delivering on that commitment with our facility in Bellevue almost fully complete."
