AMA's Medicare Message Hits Waiting Rooms

Australian Medical Association

The AMA has expanded its Modernise Medicare campaign with new animations now being screened in GP practices throughout marginal electorates across Australia.

Building on recent campaign initiatives, these engaging animations highlight the urgent need for Medicare reform and communicate directly with patients while they wait to see their doctor.

The placement of these videos provides a crucial opportunity to educate the public about the challenges facing Australia's healthcare system at the point where they experience these pressures first-hand.

The animations emphasise that while recent bulk billing incentives help vulnerable people, many practices cannot afford to absorb the gap whilst keeping their doors open.

The AMA's plan focuses on supporting longer consultations through boosted rebates, addressing the rising rates of complex and chronic health problems.

Alongside the animations, the AMA has launched an interactive Modernise Medicare website that allows both patients and doctors to explore detailed information about what reforms are needed from the next government to properly fix Medicare.

Members are encouraged to visit the campaign website to explore the interactive tools and share them with colleagues and patients. The site also enables patients to quickly contact their local MP about modernising Medicare.
