Animal cruelty charges, NSW

Two men have been charged with animal cruelty offences after several chickens were killed and a pig suffered serious injuries at a farm at Nimbin, in the State's north.

About 7.30am on Wednesday 14 December 2016, workers at a commercial permaculture farm on Cecil Road, Nimbin, located 10 dead chickens with broken necks and other broken bones, NSW Police say.

A 12-year-old pig, Polly, was found with serious external and internal injuries.

A number of tools were also missing.

Detectives from Richmond Local Area Command have been investigating the incident.

About 3.45pm today, detectives attended an address at Teven Road, Teven, arresting two men aged 20 and 22.

Both men have each charged with one count of bestiality and two counts of torture, beat and cause death of animal.

Both men have been refused bail to appear at Lismore Local Court tomorrow.

Police have thanked the people of Nimbin for their assistance.
