From 16 November to 21 December, the UAB Healthcare Services will hold its annual influenza shot campaign as part of its primary prevention measures.
The campaign is addressed to all members of the university community, and particularly those with a high risk of developing complications from influenza.
The Government of Catalonia's Ministry for Health recommends flu vaccination for:
- People over the age of 60 (people aged 70 and older can receive their flu shot at the primary helathcare centre, CAP, where they will also receive a 3rd dosis of the COVID-19 vaccine).
- Women who are pregnant.
- People suffering from chronic diseases.
- People who are morbidly obese.
- Carers of any of the abovementioned groups.
- Essential workers.
- People directly exposed to domestic poultry or pigs, in farms and exploitations, as well as to wild birds. The objective is to reduce the chances of becoming infected with the human influenza virus and the bird or swine flu, and prevent the possibility of a genetic recombination of the two viruses.
- Healthcare workers (including support workers such as administration, maintenance, etc. personnel).
All those interested in receiving a flu vaccine must make an appointment by phone at 93 581 13 11. Flu shots will be administered Tuesdays, from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.; Thursdays from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. and Fridays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Apart from the flu vaccine, the UAB Healthcare Centre also offers the Tdap vaccine, and the Hepatitis A and B vaccines.
