Police are appealing for public assistance as investigations continue into the movements of a man before his body was located in Goat Island last month.
Officers from Marine Area Command were called to the island – west of the Sydney Harbour Bridge – about 6pm on Thursday 6 October 2022, after a man's body was found on rocks.
A post-mortem examination was conducted and confirmed the body to be that of 36-year-old Ali Sarvari, who was an Iranian National.
Investigators from the Marine Area Command formed Strike Force Mulubina to investigate the circumstances surrounding Mr Sarvari's death.
As part of their inquiries, strike force investigators were notified that Mr Sarvari was last seen in the Parramatta CBD, near Church and Macquarie Streets, on Thursday 29 September 2022.
In the days after, it's believed he may have travelled on public transport to the Sydney Opera House to see friends.
Marine Area Command Crime Manager, Detective Acting Inspector Bryce Watson, said investigators haven't been able to piece together Mr Sarvari's movements since he was last seen in September.
"Ali Sarvari was a much-loved son, brother and friend, and our investigators want to find answers to provide closure to his loved ones," Det A/Insp Watson said.
"While his death is not believed to be suspicious, it is difficult for his family and friends to grieve without knowing how he came to be on Goat Island.
"We believe that there are people in the community who saw Mr Sarvari prior to his death, and we strongly encourage them to come forward," he said.
