Appeal to locate man missing since 1976, NSW

Police are appealing to the community to help locate a man who was reported missing from Katoomba almost 40 years ago, NSW Police say.

Mick Swan, then aged 54, was last seen at 5.45pm on Sunday 12 December 1976 leaving the Anita Villa nursing home on Penault Avenue, Katoomba, (formerly known as Sans Souci Nursing Home).

Mr Swan may have been headed to the Liverpool area as he had family there at the time. Police and family held immediate concerns for his welfare.

Mr Swan is described as being of Caucasian appearance, approximately 167cm tall, with short dark hair. He was described as being very active and had wandered off before.

He was last seen wearing black pants, a black shirt and a brown jumper.

In 2011, Operation Firenze was set up as a joint project between the NSW Missing Persons Unit, Unsolved Homicide and Forensic Services Group identifying long-term missing persons.

Investigators are now renewing this appeal for anyone with information on Mr Swan’s whereabouts to contact Katoomba Police Station on (02) 4782 8199 or Crime Stopers.
