The ARC has updated its Open Access Policy .
This update strengthens open access requirements to ensure research funded by the ARC is accessible to the public. It reflects national and international best practice while recognising diverse research disciplines, publishing practices and cultural considerations.
Open access plays a critical role in maximising the impact of research. By making ARC‑funded research accessible to policymakers, industry, not‑for‑profits and the public, open access supports economic and societal outcomes beyond academia.
Version 2026.1 of the policy takes effect on 1 July 2026 and applies to all ARC grant schemes that open for application on or after this date.
