Arrest after assault on police in Wagin, WA

Two people have been charged over an incident in which two police officers were allegedly assaulted in Wagin on Saturday 19 May 2018.

It will be alleged around 11pm, the two officers stopped a vehicle for a random breath test at the intersection of Wendell and Johnston Streets in Wagin, WA Police say.

Occupants in the vehicle were aggressive towards the two officers and each other.

The two officers attempted to calm the situation and were talking to a 33 year old man, when a 30 year old woman assaulted the female Senior Constable to the head and throat.

She then allegedly continued the assault by further kicking and striking the officer.

The male Sergeant intervened, and was allegedly wrestled to the ground by the 33 year old man. The Sergeant then attempted to assist the female officer, but was further assaulted by both the woman and the man.

The officers were able to call for assistance after OC spray was deployed.

Additional officers attended the scene along with an ambulance. Both officers were conveyed to Wagin Hospital where they were treated for lacerations and bruising injuries. They have since been released.

A 30 year old woman of Wagin and a 33 year old man of Wagin have each been charged with Assault Public Officer and will appear before the Narrogin Magistrates Court on 22 May 2018.
