Arrests made after aggravated robberies in Whangarei

As stated by Acting Detective Senior Sergeant Rob Huys, Whangarei Police:

Two people have been arrested and charged in relation to three aggravated robberies in Whangarei.

The first two incidents occurred as a gas station and a food premise on 7th June, 2021 in Tikipunga.

The latest incident took place at a dairy in Whau Valley on 27th June.

Two males, aged 23 and 17, have been charged with three counts of aggravated robbery and are appearing before the court.

The 23-year-old is also facing a separate charge relating to unlawful possession of a firearm and he will be appearing tomorrow morning in the Whangarei District Court.

Police want to thank the public for their assistance and I also want to acknowledge the good work of our officers in investigating and identifying the alleged offenders responsible for these aggravated robberies.

As the matter is before the courts, Police are not in a position to comment further.
