Art Through Lens

The latest instalment of Shellharbour City Council's Art in Unexpected Places bus shelter program shines a spotlight on the observant and compelling work of documentary photographer, Tim Baker.

Tim's work brings a documentary style to this public art project, showcasing photographs that are deeply rooted in his curiosity about the world. His works on Shellharbour bus shelters reflect moments of everyday life with honesty and insight, capturing the quiet beauty and tension of the spaces we often pass by unnoticed.

Tim said he was proud to have his works featured in key areas across the Shellharbour region and that he hoped they would inspire people in the city.

"I'm drawn to the in-between moments. The ones that are easy to overlook. There's a poetry in the ordinary. These bus shelters felt like the perfect place to explore that," Tim said.

From May until the end of July, his works will be displayed in key Shellharbour locations as part of the Art in Unexpected Places program, which rotates artists quarterly to transform public spaces into platforms for visual storytelling and creative expression.

Shellharbour City Mayor Chris Homer praised the successful initiative.

"The Art in Unexpected Places program keeps delivering new perspectives and creativity, offering locals and visitors a fresh way to enlighten our public spaces," Mayor Homer said.

"The program continues to bring vibrancy and cultural depth to the area, and Council is proud to support art in the city."

This year, Tim was also a finalist in the Galah Regional Photo Prize and was recently announced as a finalist in the prestigious National Photographic Portrait Prize.
