Local artists are invited to contribute artworks to the Griffith Regional Art Gallery's 2026 community exhibition Roots and Reflections.
Art Gallery Coordinator, Melanie Toscan, said "Our annual community exhibitions are always popular with both artists and patrons. Our local artists love the opportunity to have their work displayed on the Gallery walls, and residents and visitors enjoy seeing the work of local artists. Each year the field of entries grows stronger, and we look forward to seeing this year's entries."
"Our theme this year is deliberately not too rigid, and there are many ways artists can represent "Roots & Reflections". Artists are encouraged to interpret the exhibition name through their own art practice," Ms Toscan said.
Participation in Roots & Reflections offers artists the opportunity to connect with the Griffith arts community, share their work with new audiences, and be part of a collective exhibition that reflects the diversity and strength of creative practice in the region.
This year the exhibition looks a little different with the introduction of a second section to exhibit artworks, as well as the usual version of how work has been entered in previous years. This offers artists the opportunity to enter a work in one or both sections.
SECTION 1 – 2D & 3D Works
This entry is open to 2D and 3D art practices including; painting, drawing, printmaking, photography, textiles, sculpture, digital or time-based works. Featured in the front gallery, artists are limited to a one artwork entry in this part of the exhibition and works can be for sale at the artist's discretion of pricing. An entry fee of $5.00 applies.
SECTION 2 – Uniform Canvas Works
Upon entering, artists will be provided with a canvas of a uniform size by the Gallery. Artists will be limited to one artwork and may use a variety of mediums, but the canvas must remain this size. This section of the exhibition will be displayed in the back gallery and all works will be for sale in this section at a set price and with a set return for the artist. Each artwork will go unlabelled, with the artist only being disclosed to the purchaser upon close of the exhibition. Entry fee of $15 applies, which includes the provision of the canvas.
Ms Toscan said this new initiative of displaying and selling artworks unlabelled by artists in the second section creates an opportunity for artists of all different levels to come together in one space and share something of equal value and enjoy a different way of exhibiting their art.
Entries close on 20 March 2026. The exhibition will be on display at Griffith Regional Art Gallery from 28 March to 3 May 2026, with an official opening event on 27 March 2026 at 6pm.
