Assault appeal, South Brisbane

Police are seeking public assistance following an alleged assault at South Brisbane yesterday afternoon, June 18.

It will be alleged a 30-year-old woman was walking along Clarence Street near Annerley Road just after 1pm when a man grabbed her backpack and attempted to steal it.

The man also tried to steal the woman's phone which she was holding in her hand.

A passing motorist stopped and yelled at the man, who then released the bag before leaving the scene on foot.

Police located him nearby a short time later.

The 28-year-old Spring Hill man was charged with attempted robbery with violence and is due to appear at Brisbane Magistrates Court today, June 19.

Anyone who witnessed the incident or anyone driving on Annerley Road or Clarence Street at South Brisbane around 1pm who may have dashcam footage is urged to contact police.

Investigators would particularly like to speak with the female driver of a grey SUV who travelled along Clarence Street and stopped and yelled out at the offender at the time of the incident.

Investigations are continuing.
