Just before 5.30pm on 19 July 2017, officers from South Metro Response attended at an address in Parkin Street in Rockingham in relation to a Family Violence incident between a man and woman.
It will be alleged the man had left the scene prior to police arrival, WA Police say.
While police were conducting inquiries at the address, the man returned to the house and then assaulted a male Senior Constable with a samurai sword. The officer was struck to the head causing a large wound.
Other officers were called to attend the scene, with the man having to be tasered in order for him to be restrained.
The officer was conveyed by SJA to Royal Perth Hospital where he received a number of stitches to his wound. He was released from hospital overnight.
A 45 year old man of Beeliar has been charged with 2 x Breach of Violence Restraining Order, 2 x Armed in a Way to Cause Fear, Criminal Damage, and Intent to Maim by Unlawful Wounding.
He will appear before the Rockingham Magistrates Court tomorrow.
