The regional government of Asturias, Spain, has approved a collaboration agreement with the International Labour Organization (ILO) to support a project aimed at improving the working and economic conditions of women who provide community care services in Cali, Colombia.
The project seeks to strengthen women-led social and solidarity economy organizations that provide essential services to their communities, particularly in contexts marked by economic vulnerability and inequality.
Among the organizations benefitting from the initiative are the community soup kitchen Delicias de mujer: algo diferente and the group Madres Comunitarias de Brisas de Mayo, which play a leading role in providing care and social support in their communities.
The initiative aims to contribute to greater protection and recognition of the work performed by these women, which is often carried out under precarious conditions despite its essential contribution to community well-being.
The project forms part of the ILO's global work on the care economy, which promotes policies and measures to recognize, reduce, and redistribute unpaid care work, while advancing decent work and better conditions for paid care workers.
The initiative also reflects Asturias' commitment to transformative feminist development cooperation and to Colombia, which is one of the priority countries identified in its international cooperation policy.
