Attorney-General to hold personal insolvency roundtable

The Albanese Government will convene a national roundtable with key stakeholders on the topic of personal insolvency.

Australia's insolvency laws have not been subject to a comprehensive review since the Harmer report in 1988 - decades prior to the digital age and the widespread use of e-commerce.

Ensuring the personal insolvency system is fit-for-purpose is an important priority for this Government and this roundtable provides an important opportunity for key stakeholders to engage in a direct conversation with Government.

In particular, I want to hear about the pressure points of the current system, critical reform areas and longer-term priorities.

The roundtable will bring together stakeholders across all aspects of the personal insolvency spectrum including practitioners, those representing creditor and debtor interests.

The roundtable will be held on Thursday, 2 March 2023.
