Aussie golden girls make their mark in Cyprus

The Australian Women's Trap Team of Catherine Skinner, Penny Smith, and Laetisha Scanlan took home the gold after an incredible run in the Trap Women Team event at the ISSF World Cup Shotgun in Nicosia, Cyprus.

The Aussie's started with their individual Women's Trap event from the 10-12 March which saw them trying to get reacclimatised to international competition after two years away from the scene due to the pandemic. Conditions in Cyprus were the coldest temperatures the squad had experienced and during the Trap qualification they did their best to deal with the conditions with 40 km/h winds and snowfall making it tough.

With Scanlan and Smith coming off medal wins in the trap mixed teams, and Skinner coming off a 4th place finish in the Women's Trap Semi Final, all three athletes were ready to compete together in the Trap Team Women's event on Monday (14 March).

The Aussie girls finished qualification in first position, 8 points ahead of USA for the Gold Medal match where after the first 15 targets they immediately took the lead. The USA Womens Team put on a good fight and levelled the scores to 4 points each but Australia finished the match strong, dropping only 3 targets in the last round to win the gold.

The next competition for the team will be in April at the ISSF World Cup Shotgun in Lonato, Italy.
