Former Bayside Mayor Alex del Porto was among six Bayside residents whose contributions to our community were recognised in the recent Australia Day honours.
Mr del Porto received the Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) for his service to local government and the Bayside community. He served five terms as Mayor, as well as one term as Deputy Mayor.
Mr del Porto was a Councillor for 27 years and received the Municipal Association of Victoria 25 Years' Service Award in 2022, as well as the Association's Mayor Emeritus Award in 2011 and 2017.
Antonio Cipriano, a former Bayside Citizen of the Year, also received the OAM for his services to youth through the Scouts. Mr Cipriano has been a scout leader with the 1st/14th Brighton Sea Scouts since 1989.
