Six research projects will share $5.2 million in grants to support international science collaboration under Round 14 of the Australia-India Strategic Research Fund (AISRF).
The projects address priority areas agreed to by the Australian and Indian governments, creating stronger links between the 2 countries.
Projects fall within 6 priority areas:
- quantum technologies
- groundwater resources management
- downstream processing, recycling and tailings reclamation of critical minerals
- infection prevention and control
- digital health and telemedicine
- biomaterials (including bioplastics).
Funding will go toward:
- low cost, portable and solar-powered optical sensing technology to monitor groundwater contaminants
- research into the structural dynamics of SARS-CoV-2
- a versatile protein mimicry platform to deliver bioadhesives for mending soft tissues
- advanced recovery of battery materials and rare earth elements from ores and wastes
- digital technologies at primary care centres to prevent blindness
- quantum-enhanced atomic gravimetry to improve sensing capabilities.
The Indian Government will support the Indian partners in each project.
