Australia-Japan Foundation Grants Recipients 2025-26

I am pleased to announce the 19 recipients of the Australia-Japan Foundation (AJF) grant round for 2025-26.

The AJF is Australia's oldest cultural council, advancing our foreign and trade policy interests by supporting partnerships in areas of shared interest and expanding community links with Japan.

The grant recipients in 2025-26 include:

  • The University of Sydney's youth-led educational diplomacy program connecting students of USyd and Tohoku University with government, industry and NGO professionals to examine global issues, promote inclusive societies and foster a deeper understanding between Australia and Japan;
  • The Shepherd Centre for Deaf Children's initiative to share expertise in its early intervention program for children with hearing loss and to upskill Japanese hearing-health professionals
  • The Japan Lifesaving Association, in partnership with Surf Life Saving Australia, to deliver a bilateral exchange program focused on drowning prevention that includes rescue training, patrol observation and leadership development
  • Associate Professor Mayumi Kako from Hiroshima University, in partnership with Australian Primary Health Care Nurses Association and Japan Primary Care Association, to deliver a professional collaboration program to improve primary care treatment and experiences across countries
  • Ecosystem Research Institute's initiative to bring SMEs together to foster knowledge exchange of Autstralia's methods of sustainable agriculture to improve farmland conditions in Japan.
