A parliamentary inquiry will explore ways to improve the sustainability and accessibility of Australia Post.
For more than 200 years, Australia Post has kept Australians connected and delivered essential services to communities in all parts of Australia.
In recent years, the way Australians communicate and do business has changed, resulting in fewer letters being sent and declining foot traffic in some post offices.
Additionally, the growth of global marketplace retailers is reshaping postal markets in Australia and around the world.
Following a referral from the Minister for Communications, the House of Representatives Standing Committee on Communications, the Arts and Sport will begin an inquiry into Australia's postal network to ensure Australia Post meets the evolving needs of our communities.
The inquiry will provide an opportunity for everyday Australians, businesses and stakeholders to help shape the future of Australia's postal network.
The Committee will consider opportunities to enhance or diversify the services available through the post office network, with a focus on supporting community and commercial sustainability - recognising the vital role post offices play in communities across Australia.
The Committee plans to deliver its report in the second quarter of 2027.
