Remembrance Day 2026: Bayside

The Sydney Opera House will be illuminated with poppies on Remembrance Day thanks to a campaign led by Eastlakes resident Paul Graham OAM in 2015.

Former president of the Mascot RSL Sub-Branch, Mr Graham began lobbying the NSW Government in 2015 to have the iconic sails lit with poppies on Remembrance Day. His campaign succeeded, and since 2016 the tribute has become an annual event.

Remembrance Day, observed on 11 November, commemorates the anniversary of the Armistice that ended fighting in World War I.

Each year, at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month, people across Australia and around the world pause for one minute's silence to honour the courage, service and sacrifice of veterans and current serving personnel.

RSL Remembrance Day services will be held across Australia, with Bayside RSL clubs and sub-branches hosting a range of commemorative ceremonies.

Kingsgrove RSL Club will hold its wreath-laying ceremony on Sunday, 8 November, at 10.30am.

On Remembrance Day, Wednesday 11 November, the Ramsgate-Rockdale RSL Sub-Branch service will start at 10am, while other services start at 10.30am.

The Mascot RSL Sub-Branch will hold a service in Mascot Memorial Park, corner of Coward and Botany Road in Mascot.

The Botany RSL Sub-Branch service will be held at Booralee Park, corner of Daniel and Bay Street, Botany.

The Arncliffe RSL Sub-Branch service takes place at Arncliffe Memorial Park at 71A Wollongong Road, Arncliffe

Community members are encouraged to attend a local service and take a moment to remember the men and women who have served Australia in times of war, conflict and peacekeeping operations.
