On Saturday, Australians backed cleaner, more affordable vehicles, rejecting the "ute tax" scare campaign and plans to remove subsidies that help make the transition more accessible, said the Electric Vehicle Council.
The EVC congratulates the Albanese Government on its re-election, hailing it as a victory for Australians looking to save thousands of dollars behind the wheel and reduce air pollution for everyone.
Electric Vehicle Council CEO Julie Delvecchio said the sector looks forward to continuing its strong collaboration with the Albanese Government, and all parliamentarians, in accelerating efforts to build on progress.
"We congratulate Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, Minister Chris Bowen and Minister Catherine King on their election victory and their ongoing success in driving Australians toward cleaner, cheaper-to-run vehicles," Ms Delvecchio said.
"This decisive re-election validates the Albanese Government's leadership in working to reduce emissions and the cost-of-living by making it more affordable and easier for Australians to buy electric vehicles.
"Australia's vehicle efficiency standard and the electric car discount will continue delivering more choice in cheaper-to-run, cleaner cars. We encourage the Government to continue supporting Australians to cut their cost of living by fully implementing the standard and continue supporting the FBT exemption for battery electric cars.
"More Australians than ever before are making the switch to EVs, saving up to $3,000 annually on fuel and maintenance while reducing air pollution which is better for our health.
"EVs are also being driven right across the country with the majority of EV uptake in our middle and outer suburbs and regional Australia. That's because these people drive more and stand to benefit even more than inner city drivers by getting into an EV.
"We look forward to working with the Albanese Government in its second term to build on the progress made toward a cleaner future for Australia with lower fuel bills, better air, quieter streets, and real energy independence.
"In its first term, the Albanese Government finally put an end to Australia being the world's dumping ground for gas-guzzling vehicles. In its second term, the Albanese Government needs to unlock the full potential of electric vehicles - from expanding policies beyond passenger cars, to leveraging technologies that will revolutionise how EVs power our homes and energy grid.
"To reach net zero goals, we need to decarbonise our commercial vehicles including vans, trucks and buses which make up a significant portion of the country's transport emissions, while continuing to invest in charging infrastructure for all vehicles.
"We also encourage the government to champion vehicle-to-grid technology - a ground-breaking opportunity to stabilise the grid and save all Australians money on energy bills.
