We are excited to announce that Australia's Chief Scientist Dr Cathy Foley AO PSM will give the National Press Club Address on 17 March – as the centrepiece of this year's Science meets Parliament.
In her first major speech as Australia's Chief Scientist, Dr Foley will lay out her ambitious agenda for her term – so register now for SmP.
Dr Foley started her term as Australia's ninth Chief Scientist in January 2021. She comes to the role from a lengthy career in CSIRO – most recently serving as Chief Scientist for the national science agency.
She has won numerous awards for her scientific excellence and influential leadership. They include an Order of Australia for service to research science and to the advancement of women in physics. She is also a learned fellow of both the Academy of Technology and Engineering and the Australian Academy of Science, and an honorary Fellow of the Australian Institute of Physics.
Her past roles include membership of the Prime Minister's Science, Engineering and Innovation Council, President of the Australian Institute of Physics, President of Science and Technology Australia, ATSE Board Director, Editor-in-Chief of Superconductor Science and Technology journal and Council Member for Questacon.
Dr Foley is an inspiration to women in STEM across the globe and is committed to tackling gender equality and diversity in the science sector. She has strived to create an environment that embraces the full human potential of both men and women for wellbeing and economic benefit and for equality.
This year Science meets Parliament celebrates its 21st birthday with a program that is bigger and better than ever, and delivered online. For two decades, our flagship event has been developing the advocacy of STEM professionals, and connecting them to decision-makers to nurture strong relationship and connections between the STEM sector and Government.
Delegates hear from leaders in policy, media, science and technology, and advocacy. You will also meet with parliamentarians across the political spectrum, and connect with others working in STEM.
