Bland Shire Library is delighted to welcome acclaimed author and illustrator Sami Bayly to the Bland Shire during the week commencing 22 June as part of the library's annual school author visit program.
Over five days, Sami will travel across the Shire with Bland Shire Library staff, visiting local schools and connecting with students through engaging presentations and interactive sessions designed to inspire creativity, curiosity and a love of reading.
Sami Bayly is a Newcastle-based author and illustrator best known for her detailed and captivating books celebrating wildlife, insects and the natural world. With a background in environmental science and zoology, Sami combines scientific knowledge with striking artwork to create educational books that encourage children to explore and appreciate the environment around them.
Her popular titles include The Illustrated Encyclopaedia of Ugly Animals, The Illustrated Encyclopaedia of Peculiar Pairs in Nature, The Illustrated Encyclopaedia of Dangerous Animals and The Illustrated Encyclopaedia of Extinct Animals. Her work has received widespread recognition for making science and conservation accessible and engaging for young readers.
During her visit to Bland Shire schools, students will have the opportunity to hear firsthand about Sami's creative journey, her passion for wildlife conservation and the process of writing and illustrating books. The sessions are designed to encourage imagination, literacy and artistic expression while also fostering an interest in science and the natural world.
The annual author visit program coordinated by Bland Shire Library is a valued initiative that provides regional students with opportunities to interact directly with successful Australian authors and creatives, experiences that are often less accessible in rural communities. The program continues to strengthen connections between schools, students and the library while promoting lifelong learning and literacy across the Shire.
Bland Shire Council is proud to support programs that enrich educational opportunities for local students and bring inspiring experiences into regional communities.
