The Finocchiaro CLP Government is investing an additional $4 million over two years to continue the Fisheries Compliance Unit and protect Territory fishing.
The NT fishing sectors contributes more than $300 million annually to the economy and supports around 2,500 jobs.
The investment will help preserve the Territory lifestyle by protecting fish stocks for future generations.
The Finocchiaro CLP Government is continuing to restore the Territory lifestyle by investing an additional $4 million over the next two years to maintain and strengthen the Northern Territory Fisheries Compliance Unit.
This funding will ensure the Territory holds a strong frontline compliance presence to protect fisheries resources and preserve fishing opportunities for Territorians now and into the future.
Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries Gerard Maley said the investment was about protecting a way of life many Territorians cherish, the weekends on the water and time with family and friends.
"In our year of growth, certainty and security, we are backing Territory fishing and protecting the lifestyle that comes with it," Mr Maley said.
"Fishing is part of who we are in the Territory. It brings families and mates together, supports regional communities and remains one of the great lifestyle advantages of living here."
"That is why strong compliance matters. It helps protect fish stocks today so future generations can continue to enjoy the same experiences."

Strong compliance systems are essential to maintaining healthy fish stocks, ensuring sustainable access and preserving the world-class fishing experiences Territorians value.
Since April 2025, the Fisheries Compliance Unit has:
Conducted 247 patrols, 32 patrols in joint response with Aboriginal marine rangers on-countryInteracted with over 2,490 TerritoriansDetected 174 offencesSecured successful prosecutions for illegal fishing of Golden Snapper in Reef Fish Protection Areas.
The unit works closely with Aboriginal Marine Rangers and police, particularly in regional and remote areas, helping strengthen compliance capability across the Territory.
"This is about making sure Territory families can keep enjoying some of the best fishing in the world, now and into the future," Mr Maley said.
