Ballarto Road works move in right direction

The City of Casey has welcomed the State Government's recent $4.25 million commitment to reseal a section of Ballarto Road in Clyde as part of its ongoing advocacy campaign for more funding to upgrade key arterial roads.

City of Casey Chair of Administrators Noelene Duff PSM thanked Member for Bass Jordan Crugnale for committing the funds to improve up to five kilometres of this busy road, which is currently in poor condition.

"We look forward to the resealing works at Ballarto Road, which mark an important step to support the thousands of road users relying on this vital connection in Clyde."

Council has long advocated for the proper planning and upgrade of Ballarto Road in Clyde.

"Ballarto Road has been identified as a key arterial road for the region and the section between Clyde-Five Ways Road and Muddy Gates Lane needs to be brought up to current arterial road standard with signalised intersections at key locations," Ms Duff explained.

Ballarto Road will need to connect to community projects already underway or in planning such as the development of the Clyde Major Activity Centre, new residential communities, Clyde Regional Park and proposed Clyde Park Sports Precinct.

Ms Duff said planning for the best long-term outcome for Ballarto Road is required to support the fast growing areas of Clyde and Clyde North, set to increase to over 150,000 people by 2041. In addition, more than 16,000 jobs are expected along the Ballarto Road corridor over the next

15 years.

"Ultimately, Ballarto Road will support the much-needed Clyde Rail Link project and integrate with the proposed Clyde railway station, train stabling and maintenance yards."

"Council understands our community is calling for the Clyde Rail Link to connect Casey's newest communities to the metropolitan rail line, with more than 97 per cent of residents surveyed supporting this connection."

"Upgrades to Ballarto Road, as well as the upgrade of the Clyde Road Corridor and extension and upgrade of Thompsons Road are the top arterial road projects the community and Council most want to see happen," added Ms Duff.
