Bappenas & PT Dirgantara Indonesia hold side event at G20 development Ministerial Meeting to discuss aerospace industry development

As part of the G20 Indonesia 2022 Presidency, the Ministry of National Development Planning/Bappenas, together with PT Dirgantara Indonesia, held the G20 Development Ministerial Meeting Side Event in Belitung on 7-8 September. The theme of the side event is "Harnessing the Ecosystem of Aerospace Industry in Indonesia".

"This agenda aims to provide space for policy makers, development actors, and international partners to showcase good practices, challenges, and lessons and experiences learned within the aerospace industry that are relevant to the Indonesian context, as well as to increase collaboration between G20 countries," the Ministry of National Development Planning/Bappenas' Deputy for Economic Affairs Amalia Adininggar Widyasanti said on Tuesday (6/9).

On the sidelines of the side event, which consists of a high-level panel on 7 September and an international seminar on 8 September, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) will be signed between PT Dirgantara Indonesia and Airbus to support the growth of the national aerospace industry and strengthen its ecosystem.

"The Indonesian government believes that the potential of technology in the aerospace industry is an extraordinary asset that needs to be managed accordingly, with improved and enhanced capacity and capability to strengthen and support the country's economic and defensive security," Amalia added.

One of the main points of discussion of the side event is a cooperation scheme which will be able to guarantee the achievement of independent goals in the long-term and invite new breakthroughs that can be conveyed by potential strategic partners. The Indonesian government considers policy synergy a very important aspect of accelerating the improvement of industrial independence and competitiveness, especially within the defense and aerospace industries.

"The results of this side event are hopefully the creation of policy recommendations for Indonesia's aerospace industry as input for the Ministry of National Development Planning/Bappenas' in identifying opportunities to increase cooperation with global companies and industries. Doing so will help strengthen the national aerospace industry and accelerate the realization of the 2020-2045 Aerospace Industry Ecosystem Development Roadmap," Amalia added.

The G20 Development Ministerial Meeting Side Event was also attended by Indonesian policymakers, as well as representatives of Indonesia's aerospace industry, representatives of state-owned companies and private companies, various representatives of the manufacturing industry, as well as those from the Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) and Aviation industries.

"The Indonesian government prioritizes aerospace as one of the focuses in the 2022 Indonesia G20 Presidency, one of which is realized through a side-event that presents representatives of the main industries from G20 countries, where it is very important to understand how the aerospace industries of other countries are developing," concluded Amalia.
